Stevenson Receives $250,000 in New Gifts to Support the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center

麻豆视频免费在线观看 has received a number of recent gifts to support the new Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center.

“These gifts help ensure the Berman Family Performing Arts Center will not only stand as a signature facility for arts and culture at Stevenson, but that the Center will serve generations of students and enrich the entire campus community,” said Elliot Hirshman, President of 麻豆视频免费在线观看.

Currently under construction on North Campus, the Berman Family Performing Arts Center will open in Fall 2026. In recognition of their generous gifts, the individual donors and donating organizations are acknowledged below:

James and Jacqueline Stradtner

Jim and Jackie Stradtner made a $50,000 gift to name the聽James and Jacqueline Stradtner Caf茅. Jim Stradtner is Managing Partner of Century Private Investments LLC and Jackie Stradtner is a retired teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools. Jim Stradtner is a longtime member of Stevenson鈥檚 Board of Trustees, and served as the Chair of the Board from 2015 to 2019. Longstanding supporters of Stevenson, the Stradtners previously established the James and Jacqueline Stradtner Environmental Sciences Internship Endowment to support paid internships for students in Stevenson鈥檚 Environmental Science program. They also provide annual support to a named scholarship to support graduates of Sister鈥檚 Academy who attend Stevenson, as well as a named scholarship to support students majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Scott and Carolynne Dorsey

Scott and Carolynne Dorsey made a $50,000 gift to name the聽Luke Edwin Dorsey Music Wing Vestibule聽in memory of their son, Luke Edwin Dorsey. A member of Stevenson鈥檚 Board of Trustees, Scott Dorsey is the Chairman and CEO of Merritt Companies, which comprises Merritt Properties, Merritt Construction Services, and Merritt Clubs. In addition to serving on Stevenson鈥檚 Board, he is an active member of many boards and organizations throughout Maryland.

Alpha Landscaping

Alpha Landscaping committed $50,000 to name the Alpha Landscaping East Hall and to a long-term pledge in support of the Stevenson Annual Fund. Alpha Landscaping and their employees are responsible for maintaining the beautiful landscaping throughout all of Stevenson鈥檚 campuses.

The Ford Family

The Ford Family made a $25,000 gift to name the聽Ford Family Green Room. Mitchell F. Ford is a Certified Financial Planner and Executive Director, Wealth Management, Financial Advisor, and Portfolio Management Director at The Ford Group at Morgan Stanley. He also serves on the President鈥檚 Advisory Council at Stevenson. His son, Shane Ford, was a lacrosse player at Stevenson and graduated in 2023. The Ford Family previously named a scoreboard on East Campus.

Jack Dunn IV

A member of the President鈥檚 Advisory Council at Stevenson, Jack Dunn IV made a $25,000 gift to name the聽Dunn Theater Director鈥檚 Office. Jack Dunn is the retired Chairman and CEO of FTI Consulting, a leading global expert firm for organizations facing crisis and transformation. A longtime friend and supporter of Stevenson, his previous gifts supported gap scholarships and the 麻豆视频免费在线观看 Scholarship Fund. Jack Dunn also provided the naming gift for the Dunn Gate on East Campus. His son, Jack Bradley Dunn V, graduated from Stevenson in 2022.

Harry E. Tsakalos 鈥�96

Harry E. Tsakalos 鈥�96 made a $25,000 gift to name the聽Harry E. Tsakalos 鈥�96 Collaboration Room. He is an alumnus and supporter of Stevenson along with his brother, Chris Tsakalos 鈥�03, who currently serves on the Board of Trustees. The Tsakalos brothers’ previously provided the naming gift for the Tsakalos Library Director鈥檚 Office in the Philip A. Zaffere Library, and have supported scholarships at Stevenson.

PMM Companies

PMM Companies made a $25,000 naming gift for the PMM Collaboration Room. PMM and their employees have provided years of excellent janitorial service to Stevenson. In addition to this gift, PMM previously endowed the PMM Companies Annual Scholarship which provides scholarships to students with financial need and has supported Stevenson’s endowment and athletics program with additional gifts.

Susan Humphries 鈥�70 received the Loyal Alumni Award. The award is presented to a graduate who consistently demonstrates loyalty and commitment to the University, works to advance Stevenson鈥檚 mission, and provides steadfast philanthropic support to their alma mater.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Katie Vogel 鈥�10 received the Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is presented to a graduate who has achieved a high level of success in their professional career and has made outstanding contributions within their community.

Young Alumni Award

Manny Essien 鈥�20 received the Young Alumni Award. The award is presented to a graduate of the past 15 years who has achieved extraordinary professional success, has a personal commitment to civic or humanitarian efforts, and has remained engaged with their alma mater.

Professor Emerita and Professor Emeritus

Dr. Ellen Roskes, Dean of the Beverly K. Fine School of the Sciences, was conferred the honorary title of Professor Emerita. Steven Engorn, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, and Dr. Tom Swisher, Professor of Counseling & Human Services, were both conferred the honorary title of Professor Emeritus.

Distinguished Service to the University Community Award

Dr. Michelle Ivey, Professor of Chemistry, received the Distinguished Service to the University Community Award.

President’s Award

Dr. Susan T. Gorman, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, was honored with the President鈥檚 Medal from 麻豆视频免费在线观看. Dr. Gorman will soon be stepping down from her role in academic leadership after a 34-year career at Villa Julie / Stevenson. Her superlatives are many, her love of the university and its traditions is unwavering, and her contributions have been vital and transformative for Stevenson. Among Susan鈥檚 many accomplishments is her commitment to the spirit of our Founders, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Inspired by Saint Julie Billiart, founder of the order of Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who established Villa Julie College in 1947, Susan has been the university鈥檚 ambassador of the sunflower spirit. 鈥淭he spring of 2019 is when the sunflower spirit became a touchstone for me,鈥� she says. 鈥淭o me, it reflects a spirit of bright and enduring optimism in pursuit of the greater good.鈥� During her time as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Susan has made it her signature work to support optimism and resilience in our community no matter the obstacles.

Rosemary Elliott Harder 鈥�69 Award for Creative Leadership

Jasmine Sciarillo (Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics) received the Rosemary Elliott Harder 鈥�69 Award for Creative Leadership. This award鈥痬ay be conferred on a graduating woman who exhibited creative leadership and aptitude in her time at 麻豆视频免费在线观看.鈥疶he successful recipient will have encouraged, cultivated, and implemented imaginative solutions and strategies. The annual event highlights career-focused internships in the creative fields in Baltimore and the wider region. Through student and employer panels, poster sessions, and networking opportunities, students learned from their peers and connected with employers.

The Internship Showcase is one of the many exceptional experiences SODAC students can take part in during their time at Stevenson. These experiences offer a chance for students see the practical applications of their studies, better understand their chosen field, and prepare them for professional life after graduation.

The 2025 Paul D. Lack Scholars Showcase was held Friday, April 25 in the Rockland Banquet Hall. The annual event is an opportunity for students and faculty to share their research with the wider Stevenson community. Click through the photos below to view scenes from this year鈥檚 event.

The Paul D. Lack Scholars Showcase is named in honor of former 麻豆视频免费在线观看 Provost Dr. Paul Lack. The event was conceptualized and founded by Dr. Heather Harris, Professor of Communication, and fully realized by a collaboration between Dr. Harris, Dr. Deric Greene, Professor of Communication, and a committee of dedicated faculty and staff along with support from Dr. Lack and the Office of Academic Affairs. First held in 2014, this annual event is an exciting venue for presenting student and faculty research, scholarship, and creative work.

The Lack Scholars Showcase offers students a campus-wide stage to highlight individual student research as well as student and faculty projects. Faculty-student mentorship is a critical part of the academic experience at 麻豆视频免费在线观看, and help set our students up for career success.

Every year, members of the SU community come together for 24 hours to celebrate what makes Stevenson so special and support what they love most about our University. All gifts made between noon on Thursday, April 24 and noon on Friday, April 25 will count toward 麻豆视频免费在线观看鈥檚 Day of Giving.

Making a gift is easy. Simply visit and follow the instructions to donate. One hundred percent of your gift goes where you designate it. From scholarships and athletic teams to academic programs, campus clubs and organizations, music, and arts programs, Stevenson’s Day of Giving is a great opportunity to show your support for what you love about Stevenson and help prepare our Mustangs for their future careers.

Six Stevenson students and three faculty members鈥擠r. Frank Stearns, Dr. Sam Obae, and Dr. Mark Norris鈥攆rom the Department of Biological Sciences attended the held April 4-6 at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. Click through the gallery below to view photos from the event.

At the conference, the students and faculty members from Stevenson’s Fine School of the Sciences presented research they had jointly conducted.

Biology majors Andrea Hawkins (鈥�25) and Mike Merola (鈥�25) presented two posters based on their Summer Science Scholars Research Program (S3RP) work with Dr. Frank Stearns, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences: 鈥淚nvestigating the Possible Effect of cGMP-Dependent Protein Kinase on Dispersal Behavior in Chinese Praying Mantis (Tenodera sinensis) Nymphs鈥� and 鈥淕ene Expression and Dispersal: Investigating for Gene in the Enchenopa binotata Species Complex.鈥�

Environmental Science major Adam Abdur-Rahman (鈥�26) and Dr. Sam Obae, Professor of Biological Sciences, presented the poster, 鈥淭he Impact of Climate Change on the Phenology of Native and Invasive Plants.鈥�

Environmental Science major Emily Connell (鈥�25) and Dr. Mark Norris, Professor of Biological Sciences, presented the poster 鈥淪pecies Diversity and Distribution within Edge-Interior and Canopy-Understory Quercus rubras in a Temperate Deciduous Forest.鈥�

Environmental Science majors Maggie Sehnert (鈥�26) and Lauren Sober (鈥�26) also presented a poster of research they had conducted with Dr. Norris: 鈥淯nderstory Complexity, Soil Conditions, and Landscape Characteristics as Potential Drivers of Eastern Red-backed Salamander Presence in Varied Forest Habitats.鈥�

This experience provided Stevenson students with an opportunity to showcase their research and the chance to network with students, researchers, teachers and professionals from the Mid鈥揂tlantic region and beyond.

On Stage at Stevenson: The House of Bernarda Alba

Students in the 麻豆视频免费在线观看 Theatre and Media Performance program are presenting Federico Garc铆a Lorca’s play, The House of Bernarda Alba. The play, directed by Ryan Clark, Program Coordinator and Professor of Theatre, will be presented through Sunday, April 13 at the Inscape Theatre on Stevenson’s Greenspring Campus. Written in 1936, just before the start of the Spanish Civil War, The House of Bernarda Alba is set in a small village in southern Spain following the funeral of Bernarda Alba鈥檚 second husband. After the mourners depart, the tyrannical matriarch announces to her five daughters that their period of mourning will last eight years. Obsessed with family honor, Bernarda rules the household with an iron fist, but all her daughters secretly harbor a passion for Pepe el Romano, the handsomest man in the village. The eldest daughter is engaged to him, but the arrangement is a financial one, and it is the youngest daughter, Adela, who becomes his lover. When the truth finally breaks through the atmosphere of suppressed desire, jealousy, anger, and fear, the consequences are tragic. Adela takes her own life, and Bernarda makes a desperate attempt to maintain control of her shattered household.
